[ he throws the last dart, hitting the bullseye, and then goes over to the counter to pick up the revolver. with flourish, he snaps out the chamber, emptying all six bullets into his hand. he sets five of them on the counter in a row, only putting one back into the gun. ]

Then let's experiment. [ he spins the barrel and snaps it back into the gun, bringing it to his temple. ]

[ If Aventurine's actions shock him, his expression barely changes. There's a flicker of what might be concern at how ready Aventurine is to shoot himself before he masks it with his usual stoicism. ]

[ He doesn't hesitate as he takes the gun, casually lifting it to his temple... ]

[ and, for a second, he feels his heart stop. his other hand is, of course, behind his back and he feels it shake more when ratio is standing there and pulling the trigger. ]

[ aventurine disliked that. ]

Looks like Lady Luck is looking over you too, doctor.

[ he doesn't give ratio a chance to pass him the gun and, instead, he just grabs his wrist to force him to put its barrel to his chin. ] Does that mean she's not looking at me? [ he forces him to pull the trigger on him. ]

[ He pulls his arm back, yanking his wrist free from Aventurine's grasp. ] She is always looking at you. For someone who gambles so much, I'm surprised you haven't noticed.

[ Before Aventurine can interrupt him though, he aims the gun at his own temple and pulls the trigger... ]

[ he takes the revolver back and forces a smile. ] This is it, doctor. [ he chuckles lightly, spinning the gun in hand before he tosses it behind his back to over his shoulder. he snatches it out of the air and brings it to his temple. ] Goodnight, Veritas.

[ he shuts his eyes and takes a step back, because he knows what’s next and he hates it with every single fiber of his being. ]

[ Veritas watches with the expression of a man who already knows what the outcome will be. Based on everything he's observed so far about Aventurine, he knew how this was going to go. ]

[ But this was his experiment in the first place. He needs to experience it for himself. ]

[ He takes a step forward, intent on backing Aventurine up until he hits the wall if he won't hand over the gun. ]

The intention of my experiment was always to experience death myself. As much as you continue to defy the odds of probability, this is the expected outcome.

I won't ask twice. Give me the gun, or shoot me yourself.

[ his back hits the wall, but he still refuses to give up and give in. the smile plastered on his face does falter subtly, and unfortunately for him veritas is probably the only person capable of taking note of it. ]

I never said I had to like it… [ his eyes dip to the gun and he acts like he’s going to hand it over, but instead he brings it back to his temple and pulls the trigger… or he tries to, but it’s jammed. ]

[ aventurine ducks his head and begins to laugh hysterically. ] Veritas… [ he reaches out and grabs a fist full of his shirt and yanks him down so they’re nose to nose. ] You better come back to me.

[ He notes it with a clinical stoicism, because the experiment has to come before his own feelings- including whatever those might be for Aventurine. Though the only thing to make his expression crack is the gambler pulling the trigger on himself, and the relief that floods through him as the trigger jams. ]

[ But he suppresses that just as quickly as it shows, and grabs him by the wrist. Veritas shifts it so the gun moves to his temple instead, his hand covering Aventurine's. ]

[ He doesn't pull back as he's yanked in, and in fact closes the distance between them further to press a soft kiss to his lips. ]

Your reward, as promised.

[ With his index finger still over Aventurine's, he pulls the trigger. ]

[ BANG. ]

[ he tries to pull his hand back, but the doctor is much stronger than him, so his attempts are nothing but futile. ] Please. [ he knows there's no swaying him. the both of them knew from the start that this would be the end result of the doctor's experiment, ... ]

Veritas. [ following the kiss his facade cracks, as does his voice. he tries one last time to yank the gun away, but he's forced to pull the trigger and, much to his dismay, it goes off. ]

[ he catches his body as it crumples to the floor, and because there's nobody else around he lets the tremors shake him to his core. ]
